"Over 40 years of teaching and
I've loved every minute!"
Dip. RCM (Hons, 1st class) in both performance and Teaching - 1993
It has been my privilege to be the custodian of the musical potential of many many young pupils. And to do that under the guidance of my father, Andreas Nicolaou. This was indeed a unique and special apprenticeship which began when I became the official accompanist of the School at the age of 11 and then started teaching together with Andreas at the age of 14. Both these roles afforded me the good luck of being able to observe my father's teaching methods first hand. This mentorship blossomed into a collaboration of like minds over the years, resulting in my being able to continue the work my father had started all those years ago and eventually evolving into my own style of teaching. Indeed, this was a situation which was a natural extension of my own musical studies with Andreas, which began at the age of 2.

I have had the good fortune to have worked with some wonderful and inspiring musicians: William Pleeth, Levon Chilingirian, Peter Wallfisch, Frans Helmerson, Bernard Greenhouse, Hans Erik Deckert, Anner Bylsma, Sir Simon Rattle, Christoph Eschenbach and to have performed across Europe, South America, parts of the USA and Japan. These musical experiences have enriched my musical understanding and, as a result, my teaching.

For the last 20 years, I have dedicated myself to my work at the School. There is an indescribable joy in guiding a young child, aged 3 or 4, to develop into a fine musician. The bond between teacher and pupil is very special; it is a privilege to open up the fantastic world of music-making to all these young people, all of whom go on to keep music in their lives, whether professionally or for their own enjoyment.
